What Is Activated Bentonite
Activated Bentonite is a modified organic bentonite designed to improve compatibility and rheological performance in organic solvent systems. Its layered structure can form an effective thixotropic network after proper dispersion, helping improve viscosity control, suspension, anti-settling and application stability. Selected Qinghong self-activated and self-dispersed grades can develop rheological performance directly in compatible medium-to-high polarity systems, reducing the need for separate pre-gel preparation or additional polar activators and simplifying the formulation process.
Qinghong Activated Bentonite Benefits
Efficient Rheology Control
Qinghong Activated Bentonite helps establish controlled viscosity and thixotropic behavior, supporting formulation consistency during manufacturing, storage and application while providing reliable rheological adjustment for solvent-based systems.
Strong Anti-Settling
The rheological structure developed by organic bentonite helps keep pigments and fillers suspended, reducing hard settling during storage and supporting more uniform distribution of solid components throughout the formulation.
Improved Sag Resistance
By controlling low-shear viscosity and thixotropic recovery, Activated Bentonite helps coatings maintain their position after application, supporting sag resistance and more controlled film formation on vertical surfaces.
Simplified Processing
Selected self-dispersed Qinghong grades can be incorporated directly into compatible solvent systems without preparing a pre-gel, helping simplify the production sequence while maintaining effective dispersion and rheological development.
Activated Bentonite Applications

Coatings & Paints
In solvent-based paints and coatings, Qinghong Activated Bentonite helps build thixotropic structure for viscosity control, pigment suspension, anti-settling and sag resistance. Relevant Qinghong grades are used in anticorrosive coatings, marine paints, industrial decorative paints, automotive primers and wood coatings. Proper grade selection supports stable storage behavior, controlled application and uniform distribution of pigments and fillers throughout the coating system.
Printing Inks
Activated Bentonite provides useful rheological control in solvent-based printing ink formulations where pigment distribution, viscosity stability and suspension are important. Qinghong 801-D, 808, CP-1 and CP-2 are listed for printing ink applications. Their rheological structure helps limit pigment settling while maintaining controlled flow during processing, making grade selection according to solvent polarity an important part of formulation optimization.

Sealants, Greases & Drilling Fluids
Qinghong organic bentonite grades also serve demanding industrial formulations beyond coatings and inks. 801-D and 808 are applicable to sealing materials, while CP-1 and CP-2 are used in applications including lubricating grease, adhesives and oil-field drilling. In these systems, appropriate rheological control can support suspension, consistency and structural stability, with the final grade selected according to the solvent medium and processing requirements.
Recommended Qinghong Grades
801-D Dispersible Grade
801-D is a dispersible self-activated organic ammonium montmorillonite organoclay. It can self-activate in suitable medium-high polarity systems, while low-polarity solvents may require a polar activator. Typical paint dosage is 0.5–1.5%.
808 High-Purity Grade
808 is a high-purity dispersible self-activated organoclay developed on the basis of 801-D. It suits low-medium and selected high-polarity systems, with a general paint dosage range of 0.5–1.5%.
CP-1 Self-Dispersed Grade
CP-1 is a high-efficiency self-dispersed organic bentonite for low to medium-high polarity solvent systems. It can be directly incorporated into medium-high polarity systems. Recommended dosage is determined by testing within 0.2–2%.
CP-2 Self-Dispersed Grade
CP-2 is a self-dispersed high-efficiency organic bentonite compatible with a broad range of solvent polarity. Medium-high polarity systems require no pre-gel or activator, while its dosage is normally determined within 0.2–2%.
